It’s been called “the greatest one-day, all-sports clinic there is for
young girls,” followed by an SDSU women’s basketball game---all for
free---and it’s all coming up on Saturday, February 12 at SDSU’s Viejas
The all-sports clinic, staffed by varsity athletes from SDSU’s women’s
teams, begins at 12:30 p.m., all around the perimeter of Viejas Arena on
the SDSU campus. The SDSU athletes, dressed in training apparel, will
have equipment for all their respective sports and will give hands-on
instruction to the K-8 students.
The clinic concludes just before 2 p.m., when the Aztec women’s
basketball team takes on UNLV inside Viejas Arena. After the game, the
women’s basketball team will sign autographs for all the youngsters.
“It’s a phenomenal event for young girls,” said County Superintendent of
Schools Randy Ward, who has attended all three previous Celebrations
with his two young children. “The SDSU athletes not only provide great
coaching in their sports, but they’re ideal role models for the young
girls. They talk about the importance of studying, of diet and exercise,
of personal responsibility, and the message goes a lot farther coming
from college athletes than it might if it was a teacher or parent saying
Tickets for the clinics and basketball game are free for children taking
part, and their parents and chaperones. For information and to place an
