San Ysidro Students Dominate County Math Competition

‚ÄčElementary school students from the San Ysidro School District dominated the popular Challenge 24 Match Competition, held earlier this month at the Marina Village Conference Center.

Competing against more than 130 students from 10 different San Diego County school districts, San Ysidro students Jonathan Martinez (4th grade), Carlos Chaeng (5th grade), and Christian Arreola (6th grade) each won grade-level championships. Martinez attends Willow Elementary School; Arreola and Chaeng attend Sunset Elementary.

Participating school districts included San Diego Unified, Lakeside Union, San Marcos Unified, the San Diego Jewish Academy, Carlsbad Unified, Poway Unified, Valley Center-Pauma Unified, Encinitas Union, and Solana Beach.

San Ysidro School District Superintendent Manuel Paul told the San Diego Union Tribune, "We look forward to many opportunities to show how well our students can perform against the best in our county. We may not always win, but we know we will be competitive from now on."
