New Trustees Join Board of Education

Two new trustees joined the San Diego County Board of Education Jan. 5: Alicia Muñoz and Doug Perkins.

They replaced Sharon C. Jones and Susan Hartley who left the board in December, after years of service.

Alicia Muñoz represents District 3, which includes most of the southeastern portions of the county. She teaches English as a second language at Cuyamaca College, where she also serves as president of the Academic Senate.

Doug Perkins represents District 5, which runs along the coast from Del Mar to Camp Pendleton. Before joining the county Board of Education, he served on the Del Mar Union School District board. Perkins owns a small public relations and consulting firm that works primarily with public and nonprofit organizations.

Susan Hartley was first elected to the San Diego County Board of Education in 2002, representing District 5. Sharon Jones joined the board in 2006 to represent District 3.
