The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is kicking off Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a special summit focused on data security, privacy rights, and other important topics.
The SDCOE Cybersecurity Services team is organizing the event for school employees, including teachers, administrators, and support staff. It will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 both online and in-person at the South County Regional Education Center in National City.
"Privacy is our right, and we need security to protect it," said Ali Maroufi, Cybersecurity Officer for SDCOE.
Speakers will include:
- John Caruthers, a special agent with the FBI's San Diego Division National Security Cyber Squad
- Emory Roane, from Privacy Rights Clearinghouse
- Mona Terry, vice president of operations with the Identity Theft Resource Center
- Linnette J. Attai, author of Student Data Privacy: Building a School Compliance Program
The Cybersecurity Summit is one of the many services that SDCOE's Integrated Technology Services division offers to local schools.
