County Superintendent Statement on Upholding a Culture of Safety and Respect

San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Gothold released the following statement today after ugly and unacceptable behavior that unfolded at a championship basketball game between two local high schools. Both school districts are investigating the situation to gather all the facts before bringing the students together:

The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and San Diego County Board of Education are united in our commitment to valuing each and every student in the region, and to upholding a culture of safety and respect. We believe in coming together with the goal of honoring and valuing each other and our different cultures and experiences. SDCOE stands ready and willing to marshal our resources to serve our districts and students. As a support agency, SDCOE is here to help make sure our students get what they need and deserve to succeed.
