More than 600 educators gathered Thursday to recommit to eliminating the achievement and opportunity gaps that exist for underserved students in their schools at the biannual San Diego County Achievement Gap Task Force Forum.
Teachers, students, principals, superintendents, counselors, and board members were reenergized and inspired by keynote speaker Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade, a widely acclaimed urban education reformer.
Charged with embracing equity instead of equality, and providing access as well as building relationships, attendees then learned about local programs being implemented throughout San Diego County school districts to close the achievement gap.
"Feeling empowered after the amazing presentations I listened to at the [forum]," said a San Marcos Union School District social worker.
