The 2020 Equity Conference on Jan. 16 and 17 is packed with expert speakers and equity practitioners on topics that matter to educators and community members.
From Hamish Brewer, the relentless, tattooed, skateboarding principal in Northern Virginia, to local author and educator Dr. Delores Lindsey, there will be something for everyone interested in nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.
Educational equity is a foundational goal of the San Diego County Office of Education, which is why it is one of the lead agencies for equity within the California system of support for districts and schools.
The 2020 Equity Conference brings together hundreds of educators, parents, and community leaders to collaborate and learn together on how to engage effective, systemic change.
The nationally recognized speakers at the event will spotlight current research and best practices on how to better respond to the linguistic, cultural, social-emotional, and mental health needs of all students.
Breakout sessions are organized into academics, culture and climate, family and community engagement, leadership, and mental health and wellness. The sub-strand focus areas are: cultural responsiveness, disproportionate representation and access, homeless and foster youth, LGBTQ+ youth, multilingual learners, and students with disabilities.
In addition to Brewer, keynote speakers include Tim Wise, Tia Martinez and Dr. Donald Grant. Featured speakers include Dr. Joseph Johnson, Dr. Delores Lindsey, Dr. Karla Estrada, Dr. Patricia Gándara, and Dr. Kizzy Lopez.
