"Inspired By Music" Series Will Benefit School Music Programs

Local Alternative Rock station 91X and the 91X logo Inspired by MusicSan Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) today announced the “Inspired By Music” concert series. This series will help fund a grant program that is being created to benefit education in San Diego County public schools that use music as part of the curriculum.

The radio station, in collaboration with Belly Up Entertainment, will produce a series of live shows at Music Box that focus on new music discovery featuring up-and-coming artists, with $1 of every ticket sold from the series going to a grant fund administered by SDCOE. The series will debut with L.A.-based alt-trio lovelytheband on Tuesday, March 27 at Music Box (1337 India St.).

Teachers from San Diego County public schools will be able to apply to receive four types of available grants: music technology; teacher professional development; field trips to musical events, media facilities, or music museums; and innovative.

“91X has always been a passionate champion of new music discovery. We’re excited to team up with the San Diego County Office Of Education and the Music Box / Belly Up team to take our passion and transform it into an opportunity to support education that is inspired by music,” said Garett Michaels, 91X program director.

“There are a lot of excellent teachers out there who are incorporating music into a variety of subject areas–from math to technology to science–because it’s such a powerful tool to engage students,” said San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Gothold. “Inspired By Music grants will allow even more teachers to bring music into the classroom, helping more San Diego County students find their identities and express themselves while learning.”

“Great new music inspires all of us,” said Chris Goldsmith, president of Belly Up Entertainment. “I’m confident this series is going to lead to some really memorable 'glad I was there' moments."

91X is owned and operated by Local Media San Diego, LLC, a privately held San Diego-based company. LMSD also operates Z90.3 (XHTZ-FM) and Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM).
