Kate Sessions Teacher Honored for Dedication to Students

Kate Sessions Elementary School (San Diego Unified School District) teacher Jennifer Deaton was recognized in May through the San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®) Classroom Heroes program.

The parent who nominated Deaton praised her, writing, "Mrs. Jennifer Deaton’s complete commitment to helping students love learning makes her a Classroom Hero (aka our Teaching Superhero). Mrs Deaton is completely present for her class, often utilizing techniques like Yoga to help calm and focus her impressively full class of students, while challenging them to learn new concepts. She’s thinks outside of the box to infuse play in learning using games like the 'Wheel of Fun.' Students earn prizes for correct answers, like a high-five from Mrs. Deaton. Mrs. Deaton is also incredibly compassionate and generous with her time and energy. Mrs. Deaton’s capacity amazes me on a daily basis. She seems to arrive well before school begins, and invites the children who arrive early to join her for Running Club before school on Thursdays to promote their well-being. She helps students get their wiggles out before starting the school day, while promoting their heath."

SDCCU®, San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, proudly honors local teachers through SDCCU Classroom Heroes, launched in partnership with ABC 10News and iHeartMedia, Inc. San Diego. Winning teachers will be featured on a segment on ABC 10News, receive a $500 SDCCU Visa® gift card and one 2018 winner will win a new Toyota Prius®.

Teachers, students, parents and the community are encouraged to nominate a deserving teacher by visiting sdccu.com/classroomheroes.
