Ramona Unified Appoints New District Superintendent

The Ramona Unified School District Governing Board has appointed Theresa Ketchem-Grace as the new superintendent of the district, effective July 1, 2019. The board had been actively seeking a replacement since current Ramona Unified Superintendent Dr. Anne Staffieri announced in March she had been appointed superintendent of the Escondido Union High School District.

Ketchem-Grace is currently assistant superintendent of Educational Services in Ramona Unified, a position she has held since 2013. Prior to her time in that position, she was the principal of Mt. Woodson Elementary School in Ramona Unified for nine years.

“We are thrilled to have Mrs. Grace lead us forward into the future,” said Board President Dawn Perfect. “After receiving significant community input and a statewide search, the board ultimately selected a person with deep strong ties to the district, solid experience, and a strong sense of doing what is in the best interest of all students in Ramona Unified. We have every confidence that she will be an excellent fit for the entire community.”

A graduate from Ramona High School, Ketchem-Grace has earned degrees from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and National University. She taught high school in Lake Elsinore, Bishop, and Vista Unified, and served as an administrator in Vista Unified as well as Ramona Unified. Theresa currently resides in her home town of Ramona with her husband Robert.

“Theresa is an excellent choice for the Board and the community,” said current Superintendent Dr. Anne Staffieri. “Her knowledge of the district coupled with her outstanding record of leadership in Educational Services and as a site administrator will provide a smooth leadership transition and continue to move our positive work forward for all students.”

In its June 3 announcement, the board also stated that a formal contract for employment is still to be developed and approved by both parties at the next regular meeting of the board, set for June 13, 2019.
