San Diego County Office of Education's (SDCOE) iTV Cable 16 and Classics 4 Kids have partnered to air the broadcast premiere of Sing Me a Story: The Enchanted Tail in June.
Classics 4 Kids musicians and vocalists collaborated with Opera4Kids to perform The Enchanted Tail live in May 2019, and now the entertaining theatrical performance will be aired on television for students and families. There are also lesson plans and activities for parents and teachers to bring concerts and operas to life.
The Enchanted Tail is the story of a princess, a fox, and a magical crown. The children’s opera was written by Victoria Robertson and is performed by Robertson and Bernardo Bermudez with a guest performance by the San Diego Children's Choir.
Classics 4 Kids has been serving students in San Diego for over 25 years with interactive orchestra concerts.
"We are thrilled to be sharing this special broadcast with so many students, teachers, and families throughout the county during this unprecedented time, said Dana Zimbric, Classics 4 Kids artistic director and conductor. "Our hope is to bring music and the arts to as many young people as possible, and share joy and hope through music."
Throughout the day during the week, SDCOE’s iTV Cable 16 has content specifically created for K-12 students, including programs focused on math, poetry, Spanish language, literature, and history.
“We know students are at home and families are looking for ways to keep their children engaged,” said Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools. “This is a great opportunity to connect children and families with classical music and the visual and performing arts while school buildings are closed.”
This educational programming is one of the ways that SDCOE is working to prevent students from experiencing learning loss while they're away from the classroom.
