Language Academy Teacher Named Classroom Hero

Georgette Carrillo, a teacher at the Language Academy in the San Diego Unified School District, was recognized through the San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®) Classroom Heroes program.

Carrillo was nominated by a parent at the school, who wrote that Carrillo "works arduously on developing a non-judgemental community of learners that work together, to achieve success. Her enthusiasm, passion and dedication to her class is beyond what I have seen so far, and I have seen many great teachers. Mrs. Carrillo is a superstar and has created such a positive learning environment for students to learn, making it perfectly ok for students to be imperfect and for them to shine. She employs a growth mindset approach in her classroom, where she illustrates, that students most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work — brains and talent are just the starting point."

SDCCU®, San Diego's largest locally-owned financial institution, proudly honors local teachers through SDCCU Classroom Heroes, launched in partnership with ABC 10News and iHeartMedia, Inc. San Diego. Winning teachers will be featured on a segment on ABC 10News, receive a $500 SDCCU Visa® gift card and one 2019 winner will win a new Toyota Prius®.

Teachers, students, parents and the community are encouraged to nominate a deserving teacher by visiting sdccu.com/classroomheroes.
