Interested in becoming the 2025 Academic League Student Host?
SDCOE’s iTV Team is hiring a high school Student Host for this year’s series of Academic League competitions, including 2 recorded semi-final shows and 1 live championship show. The Host’s job is to welcome viewers and contestants to the show and to introduce the team coaches and the moderator. They also return at the conclusion of each match to congratulate the winner, thank all players, and invite viewers to the next match.
The Academic League semi-finals and finals will take place on May 21st and 22nd. The Student Host will need to attend 6 - 10 hours of in-person studio rehearsals at SDCOE’s main campus in Linda Vista. They will be supported and coached by iTV’s studio producer, who has extensive professional on-air experience.
Responsibilities
The Student Host will need to:
- Familiarize themselves with Academic League events using previous years recordings and practice scripts. (See clips below)
- Achieve a level of comfort in front of the camera by practicing with the producer virtually or in person.
- Participate in 4 studio rehearsals with a full crew. Rehearsals will begin 2 - 3 weeks prior to the first studio match.
- Host 3 competitions – 2 live semi-finals and 1 live championship final.
- Arrange transportation to and from the studio for competitions and rehearsals.
Compensation
- $17 per hour. Time includes rehearsals, shows, and prep time before shows.
- A meal will be provided during the scheduled break on the day of each show.

- Create a 1-minute (max) video introduction explaining why you want to be the Student Host and why you’d be a good host.
- Email your video file or link to ssrussell@sdcoe.net using the following label format: Name/Date/AL Student Host Application (e.g. Simone Russell/11/6/24/AL Student Host Application). In the email, students should provide a brief introduction of themselves. The subject line of the email should use the following format: Name/Date/AL Student Host Application (e.g. Simone Russell/11/6/24/AL Student Host Application).
The top five applicants will be invited to the studio for an in-person audition, consisting of a script reading.
