Interested in becoming the 2026 Academic League Student Host?
Love being in the spotlight? SDCOE’s iTV Team is looking for an outgoing high school Student Host to be the face of the 2026 Academic League! You’ll kick off two live semi-final matches and the exciting championship, welcoming viewers and contestants, and introducing the coaches and moderator. You’ll also return at the end of each match to congratulate the winners, thank all the players, and invite viewers to join us for the next match. It’s your chance to bring the energy and make the show shine!

The Academic League semi-finals and finals will take place on May 20 and 21. The Student Host will need to attend 6 - 10 hours of in-person studio rehearsals at SDCOE’s main campus in Linda Vista. They will be supported and coached by iTV’s studio producer, who has extensive professional on-air experience.
Responsibilities
The Student Host will need to:
- Familiarize themselves with Academic League events using previous years recordings and practice scripts. (See clips below)
- Achieve a level of comfort in front of the camera by practicing with the producer virtually or in person.
- Participate in 4 studio rehearsals with a full crew. Rehearsals will begin 2 - 3 weeks prior to the first studio match.
- Host 3 competitions – 2 live semi-finals and 1 live championship final.
- Work with the producer to prepare new Academic League promotional segments for live airing.
- Arrange transportation to and from the studio for competitions and rehearsals.
- Attend the June San Diego County Board of Education Meeting to introduce the winning team to the board members.
Compensation
- $17 per hour. Time includes rehearsals, shows, prep time before shows, and other possible speaking engagements.
- Complimentary meal provided during the May 20 semi-finals break.
To Apply
The Nov. 8 deadline to apply has passed and we are no longer accepting applications.
The top five applicants will be invited to the studio for an in-person audition, consisting of a script reading. The judges will be looking for clear communication, on-camera presence, and enthusiasm. For questions about the position or application, contact Simone Russell with iTV at ssrussell@sdcoe.net.
