Dr. Amy Lopez

Dr. Amy Lopez

Dr. Amy Lopez is a federal appointee and nationally recognized expert who designs and delivers innovative correctional educational programming for incarcerated adults and juveniles and training for the staff entrusted with their care. A pioneer in launching first-of-their-kind programs on positive behavior interventions, leveraging technology to connect incarcerated individuals with educational and legal resources, and implementing innovative trauma-informed staff training to de-escalate crisis situations, Dr. Lopez leads the way in effective problem-solving, working with thought-leaders to create solutions that improve staff performance, build a positive organizational culture, and increase institutional safety, as well as improving educational and recidivism outcomes . She has been featured in stories on national PBS and NPR broadcasts, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post. 

Amy began her career as a public school teacher and then as an administrator in Texas, her home state. She has served as the Deputy Director of the District of Columbia Government Corrections Department, Director of Instruction (Superintendent) for the Windham School District (Adult Corrections), and Superintendent at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department t. She now resides in Maryland, where she enjoys working gardening, restoring her MGB, and traveling with her dog.
