South County SELPA Academy

The South County SELPA Academy’s mission is to provide a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment for students whose behavioral and mental health needs cannot be fully met in a traditional school setting. Through integrated academic instruction and targeted social-emotional and behavioral supports, we help students build the self-regulation, social-emotional, and relationship building skills necessary for a successful transition back to their schools of residence. We believe every student deserves a sense of belonging and the opportunity to succeed.

Through individualized academic instruction, therapeutic support, and a trauma-informed, restorative approach to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), South County SELPA Academy staff meet students where they are and help them develop the skills needed for success in school and beyond.

As a special education school located in Bonita, a community bordering Chula Vista, we are operated by the South County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) in affiliation with the San Diego County Office of Education. We serve kindergaten through sixth-grade students from school districts throughout San Diego County. We serve elementary students grade K-6, referred by their local school districts and work closely with families and district teams to provide coordinated, high-quality academic and therapeutic support.
