Transformative Social and Emotional Learning

Transformative social and emotional learning (SEL) is a process whereby young people and adults build strong, respectful, and lasting relationships that facilitate co-learning to critically examine root causes of inequity, and to develop collaborative solutions that lead to personal, community, and societal well-being (CASEL, 2020). Through learning about and implementing systemic SEL, people have the opportunity to acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions (CASEL, n.d).

This video captures our Sketch Artist, Katya, from the Sketch Effect, taking graphic notes on our recent conference the South County SEL Exchange in April. Take a look at her work to see snippets of what was discussed as well as Dr. Dena Simmons's Talk keynote on LiberatED Social and Emotional Learning for When the World Feels Heavy

For every $1 spent implementing SEL programs, $11 is saved in resources that are not expended managing behavior problems and additional interventions for “at-risk” youth…
